Transformation

Edgar Degas, who died today, 27 September 1917, said: "It is all very well to copy what one sees, but it is far better to draw what one now only sees in one's memory. That is a transformation in which imagination collaborates with memory."

Styroprint on watercolor background, using previous block and new one from round styro plate. Rolled blue water based block printing ink onto coated masonite, then rolled onto styro block. Printed blue ink on old watercolor I didn't like, then added yellow ink to the masonite and rolled again printing some images with the mixture. Came back and overprinted with some black ink.

To be true to your gifts, be both inspired and inspiring – then you can express your love, your passion, your strength and your belief in the human spirit. -- Fealing Lin

Puccini Quote

“Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore” [I lived for art, I lived for love] – Puccini

Ship of Dreams

This is as close as I have gotten to simplicity lately.

Understanding Painting

"Any good landscape painting I've ever done was also simple. Whether it was a plain air painting that took an hour or a large studio painting that took months, I had to find a way to translate the vast amount of detail into a coherent statement that makes sense not only for me but to the viewer."
-- Mitchell Albala, from his book,  Landscape Painting.
